Faculty positions at all levels are available in the Departments of Neuroscience/Neurology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine for individuals applying techniques of molecular genetics in various model organisms to study different areas of normal neural development and/or diseases of the nervous system. Possible areas of concentration include neuronal and glial specification, stem and progenitor cell biology, synaptogenesis, pattern formation, axonal guidance, cell-cycle regulation, developmental and pathological cell death, neural repair mechanisms, genetics of neurodegenerative diseases and epigenetic control of gene-environmental interactions during neurological development and in health and disease. This is part of an ambitious recruitment effort aimed at significantly increasing the complement of interdisciplinary neuroscience investigators at the Rose F. Kennedy Center for Research in Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. It is expected that the successful candidates will have established or will develop independent research programs that will provide essential links in the long-standing tradition of academic excellence in neuroscience research at Einstein.
Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM) is a major biomedical institution that maintains a strong focus on basic science research and interdisciplinary collaborations. Of particular relevance to this search are the extensive opportunities for interactions with faculty members in the Departments of Molecular Genetics, Developmental and Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Anatomy and Structural Biology, Physiology and Biophysics, Pathology, and Psychiatry, as well as those to be housed in the Price Center for Genetic and Translational Medicine, a new research building on campus that will open in early 2008.
This position offers the opportunity to mentor graduate students with a strong interest in basic science and translational research. In addition to the approximately 400 PhD students that are actively pursuing graduate studies, Einstein maintains one of the largest and most highly regarded MD/PhD programs. Further, state-of-the-art genomics, epigenomics, proteomics and neuroimaging facilities, as well as extensive dedicated mouse housing are available to all members of the Einstein community (http://www.aecom.yu.edu).
The Albert Einstein College of Medicine is located in a pleasant residential section of the Bronx with easy access to Manhattan, Westchester County and other communities of the New York Metropolitan area. Applicants should submit their curriculum vita, a short description of future research plans, and have at least three letters of reference forwarded to the Neuroscience/Neurology Search Committee care of: Ms. Maura Gabriele, Kennedy Center 906, AECOM, 1410 Pelham Pkwy. , Bronx , NY 10461 . The deadline for receipt of applications is February 1, 2007.
The Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM) is seeking a senior tenure-track faculty member with expertise in fMRI-based neuroscience. The successful applicant will be given academic appointments in the Departments of Neuroscience, Neurology and/or Radiology, depending upon the individual’s own areas of interest. The applicant should have an M.D. or Ph.D. and a record of federally-funded research. Start-up package and salary are highly competitive.
The candidate should have strongly demonstrated expertise in state-of-the-art functional MR imaging research in an area of neuroscience and/or neurological disorders. In addition to continuing an independent research program, the successful applicant will be expected to facilitate the imaging research of faculty members within the neuroscience community of AECOM.
The Albert Einstein College of Medicine has a long-standing tradition of excellence and innovation in neuroscience and neurogenic research and rapidly evolving multidisciplinary program in functional imaging. An unusually vibrant and interactive basic science and clinical research environment is complemented by a number of highly regarded research centers and institutes in the areas of neuroscience, diabetes and metabolism, liver diseases, cardiovascular diseases, cancer biology and gerontology. This academic environment will create exciting opportunities to develop productive collaborations.
The AECOM Gruss MRRC is located in the center of the College campus and has approximately 10,000 sq. ft. of contiguous space, including MR suites, patient support facilities, engineering labs, offices and common work areas. The available MR systems include a 4T whole body Varian INOVA system with a high performance gradient insert and a 9.4T 20cm Varian INOVA animal system. In addition, 6 Phillips and General Electric 1.5 and 3T system, housed in Radiology at Montefiore Medical Center are available for functional imaging of patient populations and for clinical research.
